 DILI, 19 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The regulations of election article 16 give the mandate to the candidates of President of the Republic to register in the Court of Appeal during 20 days starting from 15 january to 04 february 2022.

“Registration of the candidates of the President of the Republic has started since the President of the Republic decreed the date of the election of the President of the Republic. Therefore, the registration had started from 15 january until 04 february 2022 during 20 days,” National Director of the Technical Secretariat of Electoral Administration (STAE), Acilino Manuel Branco told Tatoli at the office of STAE, Kaikoli, Dili, today.

Branco added that although the registration of the candidates of the Presidential of the Republic has been ongoing since january 15, but until now there are no candidates of President of the Republic who have registered at the Court of Appeal, Dili.

He explained, article 65 of the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Timor – Leste gives a mandate to every citizen of Timor – Leste to become the candidate of the President of the Republic but also have requirements that must be fulfilled.

The criteria to become the candidate of President of the Republic is must be the original citizen of Timor-Leste, have an identity card such as; an Electoral card, Bilhete de Identidade (BI), Certification birth of RDTL, Age must be 35 years above, present 5000 electoral card supporters, and have to fill up the declaration form and must be free from criminal.

All of these requirements must be fulfilled   by the candidate of the President of the Republic before registering themselves in the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal will verify all the requirement documents and if the requirements are incomplete, it will be returned to the candidates of the President of the Republic to be completed  within 10 days, if the candidates of President of the Republic do not complete the requirements, the Court of Appeal will disqualify the candidate of the President of the Republic of Timor- Leste.
