DÍLI, August 11, 2020 (TATOLI) – Timorese Government is prepared to implement the five years of National Action Plan to the people with Disabilities.

“MSSI is collaborating with the line of ministerial to implement the National Action Plan for People with Disabilities, for the next five years,” National Director of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI), Rui Exposto, told Tatoli at his office Caicoli Dili.

Mr. Exposto said the MSSI has not completed the action plan, but after the completion the MSSI will be subsequently handed over to the Council of Minister for the approval.

He added the Government is offered the competence to the MSSI to manage disabilities area, with the emphasis on the development of politic, aimed to address the concerns of people with disabilities in Timor-Leste.

He also recalled, in the early stages of independence, the State has given priority to issues related to disability.

“According to 2015 statistics result, the state has about 38,000 people with disabilities, equivalent to 3.8% of Timor-Leste’s total population,” he said.

Hence Mr.Exposto said the MSSI is continuing offer the support to citizens with disabilities through Timor-Leste Disability Association (ADTL).

He also added that the Government is currently discussing the draft law from the National Council for the Disabilities.
